Description

This is a traditional chamber orchestra with 12-15 participants – two violin sections, a viola section, and a cello section. Musicians who play wind and brass instruments should contact Vasily Popov below before enrolling. This group helps intermediate and advanced students develop their note-reading and ensemble skills through the study of a wide range of musical styles from classical to jazz!

Course materials and music are determined by the instrumentation of the enrolled students. The orchestra prepares three concert programs throughout the year, and repeat each program in two performances.

Performances and one workshop are planned for the following dates:
  • 11/12/24: DC Campus: NW
  • 11/16/24: MD Campus: Strathmore
  • 2/17/25: Orchestral accompaniment and conducting workshop
  • 2/22/25: MD Campus: Strathmore
  • 2/25/25: DC Campus: NW
  • 4/26/25: MD Campus: Strathmore
  • 4/29/25: DC Campus: NW

Please note: An audition is required. Because of the advanced level of this program, regular attendance is required. String students must be able to shift and use vibrato, and all students should be familiar with key signatures up to four sharps/flats.

For more information, and to schedule an audition, please contact Vasily Popov, Chamber Music Program Chair, at [email protected].
